History may show U.S. 'stupidity' on Iraq

State Department official, Alberto Fernandez, said on the Arab TV station Al Jazeera yesterday that history may show that the U.S. displayed arrogance and stupidity in its handling of the Iraq war.

Excerpt from the news story:

History will decide what role the United States played. And, God willing, we tried to do our best in Iraq. But I think there is a big possibility (inaudible) for extreme criticism and because undoubtedly there was arrogance and stupidity from the United States in Iraq.

Update:

In a record about face, Fernandez apologizes for statement. He said that he "misspoke."

Poor fella -- what you gonna do when they come for you?
