Russ Feingold on Jon Stewart
Catch it while you can (quicktime video)! The rerun is tonight (Fri) whenever your local cable runs Comedy Central. The man is inteligent, thoughtful, spontaneous, and actually has a sense of humor. For a Senator, that's not bad. (And he did it in the middle of the night, which gives him at least three brownie points gold stars, with an extra one for mentioning his daughter.) This guy is a mench. We should only hope we could have him as a prez. He certainly looks better, and sounds more sane, than Prez Doofus.
Crooks and Liars has a link to the video
The video, which is linked within the above article, must be extremely popular. The download is running slower than anything else I have ever gotten from CrooksAndLiars. 18Mb, but worth the wait.
McCain hired senior advisor mired in two scandals
From TalkingPointsMemo:
John McCain finally getting asked about why he hired a new 'senior advisor' who's implicated in two of the biggest campaign corruption scandals of recent years ...
CALLER: Thanks, I had a question for the senator. For a reformer, I'm kind of curious why he would hire a guy like Terry Nelson as a senior advisor. Here's a guy who was actually in the indictment of DeLay on his money laundering charges. When he was at the RNC, he agreed to take the corporate contributions from DeLay's PAC and then recycle them back into the Republican congressional races.
And he was also, this guy Nelson was also the supervisor of James Tobin, who was the guy convicted last year for helping jam the Democratic get-out-the-vote lines in New England a couple years ago.
So I'm curious why would you hire someone with such a shady background?
MCCAIN: None of those charges are true.
CALLER: You don't believe what was actually written in the indictment from Texas?
MCCAIN: No.
CARLSON: All right.
[nervous laughter]
MCCAIN: I will check it out. But I've never heard of such a thing. I know that he was a grassroots organizer for President Bush year 2000 and 2004, and had a very important job in the Bush campaign as late as 2004, but the other charges I will go and look and see if any of them are true, but I've never heard of them before.
oops
I somehow don't think McCain's candidacy is going anywhere if he's trusting the Republican system of who gets which ops.
"If not here, where? If not now, when?"
Phone jamming scandal may reach WH
According to the Union Leader James Tobin, the convicted New Hampshire phone jammer, had more than 75 phone conversations with Ken Mehlman's office between 30Sep and 22Nov of '02. It would not be unreasonable to think that Mehlman might have been in on the voter obstruction that the jamming caused.
Terry Nelson, the new high level adviser hired by McCain as described above, was James Tobin's boss.
Nelson was also involved with Tom DeLay's money laundering schemes, and according to the DeLay indictment was the recipient of a check for $190,000 to be illegally dispersed to Texas Republicans.
Seems that the best you can say for the administration is "the more things change, the more they stay the same."
Barb Bush "earmarks" Katrina donation to son Neil
From TalkingPointsMemo
Great moments in earmarks.
The Houston Chronicle reports this morning that the donation Barbara Bush made to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund was 'earmarked' for the educational software company Ignite!
As some of you probably know that's the junk company owned by her ne'er-do-well son Neil Bush.
Actually, though, it's way better, or worse, depending on your turn of mind.
Ignite!'s has a unique business model, which works like this. Neil goes around the world finding international statesmen, bigwigs and criminals who want to 'invest' in Ignite! as a way to curry favor with the brother in the White House.
A couple years ago when I was at Salon I wrote about the craze for investment in Ignite! then taking hold among Red Sea oil magnates and progeny of the rulers of the People's Republic of China (See this article as well about the craze for investing in Ignite! in the United Arab Emirates and specifically in Dubai). Now, Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky has awakened to the wonders of investing in Ignite!
Neil Bush was ahem
the bagman at Silverado. Jeb the ideologue, Dubya the good ole party boy. Marvin's the capitalist who all but disappeared. Seems like each found his special niche in the firm.
"If not here, where? If not now, when?"
Marvin
Didn't really disappear.
Marvin P. Bush, the president’s younger brother, was a principal in a company called Securacom that provided security for the World Trade Center, United Airlines, and Dulles International Airport. The company, Burns noted, was backed by KuwAm, a Kuwaiti-American investment firm on whose board Marvin Burns also served. [Utne]
According to its present CEO, Barry McDaniel, the company had an ongoing contract to handle security at the World Trade Center "up to the day the buildings fell down."
Yes, but he was so far below the radar screen
that most people have never heard of him. I think of him as the "stealth" Bush, not nearly the profile of the others, but probably hip deep nonetheless.
"If not here, where? If not now, when?"
I saw it when it first ran
It was great. I really like this man. Too bad his spineless colleagues won't follow suite. With the Helen Thomas interview debacle surely someone in Washington is ready to publically say that the emperor has no clothes. Maybe they should all be required to watch the Doonesbury cartoon "Two Presidents" while they are doing their own tax returns. I would take Feingold and about anyone else.

Fingers In The Pie
We all know the Bush Company is everywhere. There is no end to any of the crap that they distribute around the world.
I can't hold my breath any longer. This cesspool of a country is going down in flames and the Commander in power is sitting on his throne with his gin and tonic saying " Well Mama I did it, I sold it all to the highest bidder". And she says " Little Georgie I new you could do it". At this point I think every dam one of them politicians are corrupt.
Society has become careless and greedy, screw everyone else. Except the few good people on this web sight.
We can examine all this shit till the cows come home, but its all going to still be there. We have 2 more years of the Bush bloodline and I can feel it in my bones that shit will hit the fan again before Georgie is out of office.:(

Feingold looking presidential
I've been daydreaming the last few days about a Feingold/Boxer ticket. Woo hoo!
I missed last night's Daily Show, but hopefully I can catch the re-run after work tonight. can't wait :)
