Report on donations for victims of Hurricane Stan in Guatemala

On behalf of those Mayan families who recieved assistance from all those generous souls who donated money directly to Moonflower Enterprises or other grassroots organizations for emergency relief assistance to victims of Hurricane Stan in Guatemala, through the Political Physics web site, please receive a heartfelt Thank You and utmost appreciation for your support. Although, the amount that was collected and sent to Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala was modest, the impact on the families was huge. More on how your donations helped those in need below the fold.

We sent out a personal card to each individual donor with: 1) a tax-deductible receipt; 2) the report that follows; 3) a recipient list (available upon request) and 4) a beautiful, inspiring passage from "The Mother".

"All wealth belongs to the Divine and those who hold it are trustees, not possessors. It is with them today, tomorrow it may be elsewhere. All depends on the way they discharge their trust while it is with them, in what spirit, with what consciousness in their use of it, to what purpose". Sri Aurobindo, 1927.

Report of Donations Received through Moonflower Enterprises for Victims of Hurricane Stan in Guatemala. January 2006

Donations Received: US$ 603.79
Moonflower Enterprises Donation: US$ 616.21
Total sent to Guatemala US$ 1,220.00

Recipients: 43 Families (40 women, 3 men)

The money received was used to purchase items the families themselves chose based on their own needs. All items were distributed equally in the following manner:

Cotton Thread: 350 lb = 8 lbs each family
Corn: 817 lbs = 19 lbs each family
Sugar: 125 lbs = 3 lbs each family
Pots: 43 pots = 43 each family
Plates: 300 plates = 7 each family
Glasses: 300 glasses = 7 each family

Most families homes were flooded. They lost most of their belongings, including food, furniture, dishes, weaving supplies. They weren't able to work for a month and thus had no income. The threads gave them an opportunity to weave again; to start earning an income and to get back into taking care of their families and their children again...

Thanks for the report Felipe...

...and I'm glad that in some small way your posts here might have help some folks in need.

Is there a place a person can still donate? I looked on the Moonflower Enterprises site but did not see a 'donate' link.

We took the donation link off our site in January.

You can still send tax-deductible donations by check to our counterpart, the Interfaith Council 1620 N. Monroe Spokane, WA 99205. Please note Hurricane Stan on the check. Thank you for your interest. I'm going to Guatemala in April. Will be able to give you a good report once I get back. Paz.
