North Korean Sex Slavery in China

In a story that should disgust anyone with a conscience, North Korean women are being bartered as sex slaves to China to pay debt or flee to China as an alternative to starving in their own country but wind up as slaves or are repatriated where they face extreme punishment. These abominations against women must stop. The US must do something to "persuade" Asian nations, including Thailand, Burma and Cambodia, to stop allowing slavery of women. In this report from Reuters, we find that hundreds of thousands of North Korean women are forced into slavery through prostitution or "marriage" to Chinese farmers, usually arranged by corrupt North Korean officials colluding with local Chinese scumbags for a few hundred bucks. I'm not sure how they can call it marriage, since last I heard marriage involved voluntary relations between consenting couples, unless we've slipped back several centuries and women are again chattel for scumbag males to do with as they please.

Apparently, many thousands of North Korean women "were subject to 'debt bondage, commercial sexual exploitation, and/or forced labor' when they flee" to China, where if they are caught they're repatriated to N. Korea and put in gulags. Sort of like the US, where the prostitutes are the ones most punished by our busted legal system while the "Johns" who pay the dough skate free. Why is it the women are always the ones punished but the slimy males walk?

Of course, some of the women interviewed said the despite the beatings they were subjected to by their "husbands" it was better than starving while being beaten in a N. Korea gulag. Women caught by Chinese authorities and repatriated to N. Korea face prison sentences in forced labor camps for months or years, and are subjected to torture, beatings, forced abortions, and infanticide. More from the story:

China regards North Koreans who flee there as illegal economic migrants who should be sent back, and Chinese experts have spoken of about potential havoc caused by a flood of refugees from the North. Estimates of the total number of North Koreans living without permission in China vary from the tens of thousands to 300,000.

Apparently North Korea doesn't care to address the problem of its citizens being coerced into lives of slavery, and so has been named as one of the worst 14 countries on earth to allow this abomination to continue. We find that one of our lead investigators, a former congressman,

said he was encouraged by some steps China had taken to help women forced into international prostitution and sweat-shop labor.

Chinese police officials told Miller the government had stopped fining women who escape and then return to China. Chinese officials also "asked for information" about the North Korean sex slaves and their legal status, he said.

This disgusting, illegal, and immoral practice must stop. If China wanted it to stop, you can bet it would stop. They have their ways, and North Korea couldn't do diddily squat if China decided to bring the heat on, China being the heavy-handed 10,000 pound gorilla that it is. Think of a country who could put 500,000 soldiers on your border almost overnight, and you see what I mean. Cross border trafficking in slaves would stop. Instantly.
